Spyderco Knives: Spyderco Mantra Titanium Knife, SP-C202TIP

Discontinued Item – Serial # - BNIB
The illustrated Spyderco Knife is the Spyderco Mantra Titanium Knife that features a 3.2" leaf shaped blade made of CPM M4 steel, .118" thick. The blade of this Spyderco knife has a flat grind, a notched thumb ramp for secure grip, the Spyderco hole and a flipper for smooth ambidextrous one hand opening. The titanium handle, 4.14" closed, has a non reflective matte stonewashed finish, the sturdy Reeve Integral Lock (R.I.L.) and a lanyard hole. A side to side reversible wire clip is mounted at the butt end of this Spyderco Knife. The Spyderco Mantra Titanium Knife has an overall open length of 7.34" and it weighs 3 ounces. Made in Taiwan.

From the Spyderco website: The Mantra is a highly evolved flipper-style folding knife that combines classic Spyderco styling with state-of-the-art materials and advanced design features. Its iconic leaf-shaped blade is precision machined from high-performance CPM@reg; M4 tool steel - a powder metallurgy steel specially formulated to offer outstanding wear resistance and edge retention. The extremely homogenous structure of this steel offers superior dimensional stability, grindability, and toughness, however, as a tool steel, it must be maintained properly to avoid corrosion. The PlainEdge@trade; blade is full-flat ground for optimal edge geometry and includes both an index-finger flipper and Spyderco's Trademark Round Hole@trade; to support both flipper-style openings and conventional one-hand opening methods.
The Mantra's ergonomic handle consists of two precision-machined solid titanium scales with a handsome matte stonewashed finish. The reverse-side scale houses a sturdy Reeve Integral Lock (R.I.L.) mechanism with a hardened stainless steel interface that provides steel-on-steel contact of the lock and blade tang. This guarantees solid, reliable lock engagement and a long service life. A reversible deep-pocket wire clip ensures that the Mantra is always poised for immediate use and allows discreet, ambidextrous, tip-up carry.
In addition to offering exceptional cutting performance and reliability, the Mantra also helps support a very worthy cause. A portion of the sales of the Mantra will be donated to The National Parkinson Foundation.

Spyderco Mantra - Their Flipper Design Lacking 03/30/2018
By Shawn Spencer
Spyderco is a quality manufacture of top notch pocket knifes, for sure, but I was really hoping for a little better deployment of the blade for such a finely crafted tool. The flipper design, when designed correctly, is by far the fastest and most efficient means by which to deploy a blade.

The flipper design on the Mantra model, I have to say, is less than adequate. With a lot of practice you may be able to get it to open completely every time you need it to. If there were perhaps some kind of assist mechanism to help it more easily and completely open, I might not have felt such buyers remorse after spending $180 on it.

I can honestly say that I have $10 knives that deploy far better. Spyderco has missed the mark here. If all of the Spyderco flippers open in the same manner as this one, they need to go back to the drawing board or perhaps just spend a couple of extra bucks to add a relatively inexpensive spring that would allow their flipper blades to open more rapidly, effective
