Spyderco Knives: Spyderco Delica 4 Lightweight K390, SP-C11FPK390

The C11FPK390 Spyderco Delica 4 Lightweight K390 Knife is a new iteration of a classic everyday carry that features a 2.90 inch drop point blade made of Bohler-Uddeholm K390 tool steel, .098 inch thick. The blade has a full flat grind, a notched thumb ramp for secure grip, and the Spyderco Hole for ambidextrous one hand opening. The blue FRN (fiberglass nylon resin) handle, 4.25 inches closed, has ergonomic contours and Bi-Directional Texturing for secure purchase, sturdy lockback, a lanyard hole, and a 4 position steel pocket clip. The Spyderco Delica 4 Lightweight K390 Knife has an overall open length of 7.15 inches, and it weighs 2.4 ounces. Made in Japan.

From the 2020 Spyderco Reveal 5 product guide: In 1990 Spyderco shook things up by introducing two knives, the Delica and Endura. First of their kind on the market, both folders opened up the knife market to lightweight performance, one-hand open pocketknives that just about everyone could afford. They settled as our top two bestsellers and their improvement hasn't slowed since.

We've always taken great pride in our efforts to push the envelope of performance by offering exotic blade steels in our knives. With that spirit in mind, we are proud to offer the Delica 4 Lightweight with a blade crafted from K390.

Manufactured by Böhler-Uddeholm, K390 MICROCLEAN® is a state-of-the-art cold work tool steel produced by the particle metallurgy process. Its advanced alloy mix was specifically developed to provide the extreme wear resistance and high compressive strength needed in industrial cutting, blanking, and punching operations. Despite its toughness, its exceptionally fine, homogeneous microstructure also makes it readily machinable and easy to heat treat.

Collectively, these qualities make K390 an outstanding blade material for true steel connoisseurs.

Awesome Knife 01/03/2021
By M.Hansen
This is a flat out great knife that came razor sharp. A “Sharp Knife” warning is not an exaggeration here. While a desiccant packet is included with the knife, I might be able to observe a very slight grayish, partial patina on my knife. The patina on K390 doesn't really look bad though, and with this knife's steel composition it is essential to keep it well oiled or use something like Tuf-Glide. The scale color in person is a medium blue, or a little teal that I find pleasing. I'll probably get an aftermarket Titanium clip as I don’t love the black one. I realize the Delicas are a bit long in the tooth, but they just work so well in hand and cut excellent. At $80 or $100 bucks this would be a no-brainer, however I am satisfied with my purchase at $115. I have a fair number of Spyderco, Benchmade, and ZT knives and I like this knife just as much as ones that cost twice as much. Shout out to KnivesPlus, every purchase and interaction with them has been outstanding!

Perfect EDC 09/12/2020
By greg crist
The Delica is an enduring classic in the EDC world. Adding K390 steel makes it a must have. The edge retention and toughness are far superior to the usual VG10.This particular specimen has none of the issues you sometimes see with Delicas. No blade play, centering is even. I don’t care for the painted clip myself but like with most Spyderco this can be easily swapped out. Delica are made for the hand, not the eye, so even if the appearance takes some getting used to, The ergonomics are great and it disappears in the pocket when not in use. If you want a Delica but want a more exciting steel, this one is a keeper.
