Silver Stag Knives: Silver Stag Shires Slayer Knife, Slab Series D2, SS-SS30

The Silver Stag Shires Slayer is a compact workhorse of a skinner that features a 3.0" drop point fixed blade made of D2 tool steel, with a Rockwell hardness of 62, and a notched thumb rest for secure purchase. The Shires Slayer has full tang construction for strength; unique antler slab handle with ergonomic contours and a large lanyard hole. A high quality leather pouch sheath with vertical and horizontal carry option is included. The Silver Stag Shires Slayer Knife has an overall length of 7.5". Made in the USA.

From the Silver Stag website regarding the steel: D2 steel is an air hardened, high carbon, and high chromium tool steel that is extremely wear resistant and durable. D2 steel is commonly used in the machining industries to manufacturer dies and punches that repeatedly cut other materials. The blades are heat treated to a 62 Rockwell hardness and are guaranteed to retain their factory edge for extended periods of heavy use. When it does come time to re-sharpen, the blades will hone to a razor edge. In our opinion, there is nothing better than D2 steel for a hard working field knife. ...We recommend that you keep the blades oiled. The blades will spot, discolor, and rust if put away wet or are exposed to damp conditions for extended periods of time.

All antler handles will vary in coloration and surface character, which is part of the uniqueness of natural handle materials.
