Silver Stag Knives: Silver Stag Mule Stag Knife, Elk Stick D2, SS-MS425ES

The Silver Stag Mule Stag is an excellent camp knife and / or deer processing knife that features a 4.25" upswept fixed blade made of D2 tool steel, with a Rockwell hardness of 62, and a notched thumb rest for secure grip. The Mule Stag has stick tang construction with unique Elk Stick antler handle and a metal bolster. A high quality leather pouch sheath with vertical and horizontal carry option is included. The Silver Stag Mule Stag Knife has an approximate overall length of 10". Made in the USA.

From the Silver Stag website regarding the steel: D2 steel is an air hardened, high carbon, and high chromium tool steel that is extremely wear resistant and durable. D2 steel is commonly used in the machining industries to manufacturer dies and punches that repeatedly cut other materials. The blades are heat treated to a 62 Rockwell hardness and are guaranteed to retain their factory edge for extended periods of heavy use. When it does come time to re-sharpen, the blades will hone to a razor edge. In our opinion, there is nothing better than D2 steel for a hard working field knife. ...We recommend that you keep the blades oiled. The blades will spot, discolor, and rust if put away wet or are exposed to damp conditions for extended periods of time.

All antler handles will vary in coloration and surface character, which is part of the uniqueness of natural handle materials.
