The QS130-KP4 QSP Penguin is a compact EDC Knives Plus Exclusive that features a 3.06 inch sheepfoot blade made of premium M390 stainless steel with a satin finish, a notched thumb rest for secure grip, and dual thumb studs for ambidextrous one hand opening. The eye catching blue denim micarta handle, 4.00 inches closed, has stainless steel liners for strength, sturdy liner lock, a lanyard hole and a side to side reversible deep carry stainless steel pocket clip mounted at the butt end. The QSP Penguin Knife has an overall open length of 7.06 inches, and it weighs 3.14 ounces. Made in China.

An absolute steel. 06/15/2022

Negatives first.

- Thumb studs must be removed to sharpen with a KME. Other fixed systems might also have this issue. Very annoying for me.

- Mine came with a slightly uneven bevel, which isn't an issue for me with my diamond stones and fixed angle-system, but might be a task for any poor soul sharpening M390 on traditional water stones.

- Not a negative, just a bit confusing. It has a double bronze & single plastic washer setup. I've never seen it before, but it has a good action.

- Nitpick, but the pivot is T8 while the screws are T6.

Now the positives.

+ Lovely blade shape. Excellent for utility tasks. M390 is my favorite EDC steel, and will perform very well.

+ Ended up liking the denim micarta. Give it a chance if you're on the fence.

+ Flat blade makes sharpening braindead, once the thumb studs are out of the way.

+ Good grind on the knife. Slices well.

+ Insane value; M390, at 70 dollars, from a reputable company? Hallelujah.

Hard to believe a knife in M390 can be this affordable. I bought the D2 version of this knife nearly 2 years ago & use it quite a bit. It's a terrific budget knife.

This version is almost identical. The only difference I've found is that the D2 version has 1 copper + 1 teflon washer per side, 4 total, while this M390 version has 2 copper + 1 teflon washer per side, 6 total. No idea why it has 2 extra washers as the blade stock is not thinner. The action isn't quite as smooth as my buttery smooth D2 one yet. Polishing the washers plus more break-in time should do the trick.

The only slight complaints would be the oversized & slightly sharp thumb studs, unmilled liners, & non-flush clip screws, just like the original. At this price though, those are trifles.

This knife has an amazing blade that arrived very sharp, great feeling micarta scales, smooth action, & a decent deep carry clip. One BIG plus is just how rounded over everything is. It feels way more premium than the price.

A subscriber on my YT channel gave me the heads up about this release. Even though I already own 2 Penguin's, I immediately went over to Knives Plus and clicked on that "Add to Cart" button as fast as I possibly could. Regardless of the handle material, $70 for an M390 knife is an insanely good deal that cannot be found anywhere else. If you're thinking that corners must have been cut somewhere for this to be sold at such a low price, you would be dead wrong. The Micarta scales are of good quality with plenty of traction, not like that smooth stuff commonly found on budget knives. The blade on mine came perfectly centered with early lock up on the liner, but not too early. OTB action is great, hard to believe the blade is riding on washers, almost feels like bearings. Nice deep carry clip is switchable for lefties. The blade came screamin' sharp with an even edge on both sides. You do not want to miss out on this exclusive deal. Thank you Knives Plus for making quality so affordable!

QSP Penguin M390 WOW! 06/27/2022

The knife is great! Came super sharp. The action is smooth but the thumbstud protrudes so tends to catch on things you put it in.
The denim micarta scales are nice. Because of the slight texturing it provides a bit more grip. A side benefit is that the scales have a sort of “worn” look already so as you ding it up it won’t be very noticable.
The blade finish is nice, it has some sheen on it. Shape is very useful for slicing packages. And M390 for this price! Wow! Only downside is the blade is slightly over 3 inches so a mini version of this knife is welcome.
The clip is very stiff making it difficult to clip in pockets or holsters. It also curves up at the end so digs in your hand when you grip it.
It is surprisingly light for it’s size. It’s already lighter than my mini griptillion.
Overall very pleased with it. When mini version comes out will buy it also.

Good solid compact folder. 12/08/2021

The micarta scales feel nice and the blade came extremely sharp. Light weight and unobtrusive in the pocket. The deep carry clip is good other than how far out the tip is angled. I snagged mine and bent it almost straight out within the first hour. It's an easy fix though. I just took The clip off and used a pair of needle nose to change the tip angle to something less extreme. Other than that, it's a nice little folder.
