KA-BAR Knives: KABAR D2 Extreme Fighting-Utility Knife with Synthetic Sheath, KA-1282

The KA-BAR D2 Extreme Fighting/Utility Knife features a 7" part serrated clip point blade made of D2 tool steel with a Rockwell hardness of 59-60. The blade has an epoxy powder coat and blood groove. The oval Kraton G thermoplastic elastomer handle has a powdered metal butt cap and carbon steel guard. The KA-BAR D2 Extreme Fighting/Utility Knife is 11 7/8" overall, and weighs .78 pounds.

The KA-BAR synthetic sheath is made of fiberglass filled reinforced nylon. The synthetic sheath features two ways to keep the blade secure. A friction guard lock holds the blade inside the sheath, and a nylon retaining strap snaps around the handle for extra security. The sheath is also salt water resistant, so the blade will not cut through if the sheath is submerged in salt water. The KA-BAR synthetic sheath has several grommets and slots for tie-downs, and allows for a variety of carrying options.

The D2 extreme is an excellent choice for a Kabar at a extremely good price point for D2 steel. It's a semi-stainless steel and will hold up in harsh conditions. Some manufacturer's of knives want as much as $350 for a knife made from D2. I don't suggest you should do that since one can obtain a D2 Kabar for 1/3 of that price point. If you have $350, buy a Spartan Blades Kabar in Magnacut. Knives Plus offers a fair price for this knife, a better price than most retailers. Shipping was excellent and fast.
