TOPS Knives: TOPS Shango XL Knife, TK-SHGOXL
The SHGO-XL TOPS Shango XL Knife, designed by Joe Flowers, is a compact EDC for the urban dweller and outdoorsman alike, that features a 4.0 inch Hunter's Point (modified clip point) fixed blade made of 440C stainless steel, .130 inch thick, with a Rockwell hardness of 58-60. The blade has a flat grind, a non reflective Tactical Gray finish and a notched thumb rest for secure purchase. The Shango XL has full tang construction for strength; chamfered black linen Micarta scales and flared pommel for secure, comfortable grip, and the Shango Notch for sparking a fire. A Coyote Tan ballistic nylon MOLLE sheath with storage pocket is included. The TOPS Knives Shango XL Knife has an overall length of 9.25 inches. Made in the USA.
From the TOPS website: The Shango XL is an all-terrain survivor with a 440C Stainless blade, 4 inches long, with a stout 1/8" thickness.
The biggest difference is in the grind. Joe Flowers, the designer, specified that the knife have a more accurate angle for a final edge on this flat grind workhorse. As a result, it excels at carving and sharpening.
Of course, this wouldn't be the Shango, without the Shango Notch, cleverly designed by TOPS and Joe. The notch throws out major sparks, despite the roomy 5 inch Micarta handle.
