Spyderco Knives: Spyderco Civilian Knife, Serrated ATS-55 with Tufram Aluminum and Kraton, BNIB, SP-C12S

This C12S Spyderco Civilian Knife is a discontinued item; BNIB, made circa the mid 1990's.

This C12S Spyderco Civilian Knife features a 4 1/8 inch serrated Reverse S blade made of ATS-55 stainless steel with Spyderco Hole for ambidextrous one hand opening. The 6061-T6 aluminum handle, 5 1/4 inches closed, has a durable Tufram coat, black Kraton inlays for secure grip, a back lock, lined lanyard hole, and a steel pocket clip with Kraton inlays mounted at the pivot end. This Spyderco Civilian Knife has an overall open length of 9 1/8 inches, and it weighs 4.5 ounces. Made in Japan circa the mid 1990's.

From the Spyderco Web Catalog: In the 1990s Spyderco was approached by a specialized branch of U.S. law enforcement about making a knife for their undercover agents. These plain-clothes LEOs found themselves in situations where they often could not carry a firearm but carrying a knife was not a problem. Most had no formal training in self-defense tactics or MBC but as a last resort could use a blade to protect or extricate themselves from a life-threatening situation. This was how the Civilian model came to be.
