Cold Steel Knives: Cold Steel Espada G10 AUS 10A, Large, CS-62MGD

The 62MGD Cold Steel Espada G10 is a beast of an EDC, designed by Andrew Demko and Lynn Thompson, that features a 5 1/2 inch swept clip point blade made of Japanese AUS 10A stainless steel, 3.7mm thick, with a stonewash finish, a swedged tip, and a patented thumb plate for ambidextrous one hand opening, as well as open on withdrawal. The black G10 handle, 6 3/4 inches closed, has ergonomic contours with pronounced choil for secure grip, sturdy Tri-Ad Lock, and an ambidextrous steel pocket clip system at the butt end. The Large Espada G10 Knife has an overall open length of 12 1/4 inches, and it weighs 9.2 ounces. Made in Taiwan.

I have wanted an Espada for a long time. The price of this version motivated me to buy one finally, and I'm glad I did. The handle is extremely comfortable, and I like the fact that Cold Steel finally opted for G10 with smoother texturing. However, they are still using the same short, stiff clip. I loosened mine by removing it and gently bending it. Now, the tension is perfect. As for the blade, I'm very happy with AUS 10 steel. The edge retention seems to be about two or three steps up from AUS 8. Some say it's in the same ballpark as VG 10, and I'm inclined to agree. The blade geometry strikes a good balance between stout and slender, so it cuts well. Frankly, it cuts a lot better than I expected it to, given the size. In my opinion, the knife has definitely earned all five stars. I highly recommend it.

Excellent knife. More than a knife actually. Pure fun and practicality in a folding package. Cuts, stabs and chops if you need it to. I love the XL version but this is the choice for more normal people than myself. Excellent knife.
