Spyderco Knives: Spyderco D' Allara 3 Knife, SP-C82GP3

Discontinued Item – Serial # - BNIB
The illustrated Spyderco Knife is the Spyderco D' Allara 3 Knife that features a 3.40" drop point blade made of CPM S30V stainless steel, .118" thick. The blade of this Spyderco knife has a flat grind, a notched thumb rest for secure grip, and the Spyderco hole for ambidextrous one hand opening. The black G10 handle, 4.67" closed, has skeletonized stainless steel liners and a stainless steel backspacer for strength, a Ball Bearing Lock and a lanyard hole. A side to side reversible wire clip is mounted at the butt end of this Spyderco Knife. The Spyderco D' Allara 3 Knife has an overall open length of 8.07" and it weighs 4.5 ounces. Made in Japan.
From the Spyderco website: Spyderco produced the first D'Allara rescue knife to honor the memory of John D'Allara, a New York City police officer and Spyderco enthusiast who gave his life to save those of others during the 9/11 attacks. The D'Allara 3 maintains the noble spirit of the original while offering an updated style and construction ideal for all-purpose use. Its full-flat-ground blade is crafted from CPM S30V particle metallurgy stainless steel and has a utilitarian drop-point profile and PlainEdge cutting edge. The slim handle features skeletonized full stainless steel liners, a stout stainless steel back spacer, and textured G-10 scales. It houses Spyderco's patented Ball Bearing Lock™ mechanism with a ceramic ball bearing that provides extreme strength and convenient ambidextrous operation. A reversible deep-pocket wire clip carries left or right-side tip-up and keeps the D'Allara 3 ready for immediate access.

The D'allara 3 12/15/2018
By Gt
The D'allara 3 is being discounted one the way out in 2019, but that doesn't mean it's a bad blade. It's likely that pricing was just too high to compete with Spydercos other great designs.

The ball bearing lock gets knocked a lot for being difficult to operate. However that is pure rubbish, unless you are planning to use this knife in the cold or rough field conditions. Do not buy this knife if you like to fidget open and closed hundreds of times. Your thumb and finger will get tired. For everyday use it's fine.

The blade shape is another feature that differentiates the D'allara from most Spydercos. It looks very similar in profile to a Stretch.

If you own a Manix 2, this has very similar dimensions. The cutting edge of the D'allara 3 is longer and has a shallow "belly." It would make a decent paring knife.

Construction is solid with skeletonized stainless liners and G-10. The weight isn't bad for these materials.

Another plus is this knife looks very non-threatening.

Spyderco Allara 3 07/20/2017
By Hooster
This is my EDC for now. It has a smooth action. It has a thin profile and doesn't have any protruding points, that'll make it uncomfortable when in your pocket. The wire clip is okay, not flashy, it does the job. Can always take it off. Spyderco quality is top notch. The ball lock is smooth and strong, but takes getting used to. It holds an edge well. I cut just about everything that needs to be cut. Boxes, strings, rope, canvas material, some meat. This would make a nice present for a special occasion. Use a dry lubricant so you don't attract dirt in the locking mechanism. Try one you won't be disappointed.
