Beautiful knife. This version of the Type 2 Combat Utility Knife is a reproduction of the government contract submission by Case Knife Co from 1943. Case did not win the contract and the prototype knife is now in a private collection. Case contracted the Ontario Knife Co for this project, the current maker of government issue knives and bayonets for the US military. The blade is 1095 high carbon steel blackened with a finish that has a nice matte patina. Closer to the original blades with no modern alloys like Cro Van steel or thick black coatings. The handle is very nice with all natural materials. No plastic spacers or synthetics used. The handle has a more rounded shape than oval which is a unique feature of the Case XX prototype. The leather handle was very dry on arrival but a coat of leather conditioner solved that issue. The factory grind has been reported as inconsistent on these blades so I opted for the sharpening service. I highly recommend it. Knife arrived razor sharp!
