For lose to a half century I've been a "medium" oil stone and white stone person for sharpening my knives. For the most part I would routinely polish the edges with honing oil and the White stone when putting a knife into my pocket for a week or two then returning it to the drawer to use another knife for everyday carry. That regimen provided a clean cutting edge.

The DMT Fine and Extra Fine sharpener does not require water or oil - in fact it's highly discouraged; however, I've felt the reduced drag of the blade across 1st the Fine side for about ten passes per side of blade followed by 8 to 10 passes over the Extra Fine side of the sharpener makes cutting easier with less pressure. The cut is clean and fast weather it is breaking tie wraps; cutting away Duct Tape or Electrical Tape or cutting my sandwich in half at lunch.

Don't know how to put a dollar value on this diamond sharpener compared to a stone; but I'm elated to have it.
