Kershaw Groove, Designed by RJ Martin The Kershaw Groove, designed by RJ Martin, features a drop point blade made of Sandvik 13C26 stainless steel for durability, hardness, corrosion and wear resistance. The blade of this Kershaw knife has a unique 3 D machined striation pattern, a notched thumb rest for secure grip, and ambidextrous Index Open System blade flipper that first builds up pressure, and then pops the blade up out of the handle for easy deployment. The curved handle pattern, a signature Martin design, 4 1/2" closed, is built of 410 stainless steel with textured G10 overlays for secure grip, and comes with a frame lock and a lanyard hole. An end to end reversible metal pocket clip is included with this Kershaw knife. The Kershaw Groove knife has an overall open length of 8" and weighs 5.2 ounces. Made in the USA. RJ Martin made his first custom knife in 1976 when he was a teenager. An avid fisherman, his interest in knife building was peeked by an article about Bob Dozier in Sports Afield. Building knives; he became so fascinated by steel and the heat treatment of steel, that he decided to become an Engineer. Graduating in 1984 from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute with a BS degree in Materials Engineering, Mr. Martin went to work as an Airframe Designer with Sikorsky Aircraft in Stratford, CT. Over the next 17 years, Mr. Martin worked on some of the finest helicopter designs around. During the 1990's, he served as Airframe Co-Design Lead on the cockpit of the S-92, receiving his first patent for the cockpit window jettison mechanism. He served as Chief of Design for the MH-60S for two years, before retiring in 2001 to become a full time knifemaker.
