American Bladesmith Society Master Smiths

There are less than 110 Master Smiths in the whole world (as of 6-13-2006)!
A Master Smith is like a Ninja Grand Master of Knifedom

James R. Cook ABS Master Smith
I am a member of the Arkansas Knife Makers Association and the American Blade Smiths Society . I received my Masters rating with the ABS in 1991. My work has been featured in most all knife-related publications here in the US and some abroad. I am an instructor for the Blade Smithing School at Old Washington Arkansas.

Ed Caffrey ABS Master Smith
In 2000 I tested for, and achieved my ABS Mastersmith Rating, and have never looked back.
I retired from the Air Force in 2003, and went from being full time military, to a full time Bladesmith literally overnight.
I produce knives from Working Grade field knives, to high end Collector Grade Pieces., including Folders. Nearly everything I produce is forged, with Mosaic Damascus being my current passion.
I have also become a teacher of Bladesmithing, both as an instructor at Hammer-ins/Seminars, and by offering one-on-one classes in my shop.

Kirk Rexroat ABS Master Smith
began my knifemaking career in 1980 after watching a friend make a knife for his dad. I began making stock removal knives then in 1991 I began forging and it has become my passion.
I am a member of the American Bladesmith Society and I received my Journeyman stamp in 1997 and my Mastersmith stamp in 1999.
My strongest points as a knife maker include the large variety of knife styles that I make, the clean lines, and the excellent fit and finish.

After almost a lifetime of being a knife lover and user, both as a sportsman and novice repairman, I began making knives in 1983, and became a full time Bladesmith in 1992.

Larry Harley Lonesome Pine Knives
I grew up watching my Dad, "Pap" Harley, who started making knives in 1940.
This provided the spark for Lonesome Pine Knives. I started making knives myself when I was 9 yrs.old and played around at it till about 1980, when I turned full time. With the support of my family and the aid of loyal customers, I've been able to turn a labor of love into a full time profession.
I ran about 2 yrs behind on orders until I was featured in the WALL STREET JOURNAL and that quickly ended up as 4 yrs. (With the exception of my Battle Bowie. I make batches of them several times a year for my hunters and military personal).

Pat Patterson, Pat Patterson Handmade Knives
I have been a knife maker since 1991,and a founding member of the Texas Knifemakers and Collectors Association. I have always been an admirer of fine blades, and being an avid hunter, I developed a desire to try and build my own style. When I visited the shop of Johnny Stout several years ago, it inspired me to become a knife maker. He taught me most of the basics that I needed to know to become a true maker. Upon my retirement, I became a full time maker. I really enjoy making knives, and I try to create a high quality blade that will please and satisfy the user, and one that I would carry for myself. When I put my name on a blade, it is my guarantee to the customer that I have been successful.

Dwayne Dushane Dushane Custom Handmade Knives

Dwayne's site was down last time I checked I will leave this link up for a while to see if it was just a glitch.

Ernie Grospitch Ernie Grospitch Custom Knifemaker
I enjoy making knives and have been doing so since 1989.
I strive to make your knife a pleasure to use and one you will be proud to own. I make the entire knife start to finish, which includes design, construction, embellishments, and heat treating. Nothing is farmed out to anyone else. I handcraft a top quality hand sewn leather sheath for each knife I make when the style of knife requires it. When you purchase a knife from me you can be assured that it is made entirely by me and that it is of the highest quality.
I am a charter member of the Florida Knifemakers' Association. I am also a member of The National Knife Collectors Association, The National Rifle Association, and the Knifemakers' Guild (2nd year probationary member).

Ray Rogers,

I specialize in liner lock folders and professional chef's knives but I also make a few sporting knives. My knives are made one at a time to the customer's order. I am happy to consider customizing my knife designs to suit your preferences and sometimes create entirely new knives when necessary. As a full time knifemaker I am willing to spend as much time as it takes (usually through email) discussing the options and refining details of a knife's design to insure that you get the knife you really want.
